I found this information while helping my son with his Psych homework and felt it was very informative and could truly help someone understand PTSD better!

Too many that have been through DV and abuse have PTSD and just don’t realize it.  Read through this information, and you may find out that the reason you don’t feel normal is because at this time, you have PTSD and you are at your own normal!  Don’t give up!  Just because you are going through what you are now doesn’t mean it can’t get better!  Besides…being normal is over rated, being abnormal is much more fun Winking smile

If you feel some of the below really explains what you are going through, consult a professional!  There is NO shame in having PTSD because of the abuse inflicted upon you!  Get it treated, get support, get better and get feeling better about yourself!

Remember, even family members that have witnessed the abuse can develop PTSD!

Although it is always kicked off by a terrifying event, PTSD may have roots in biology as much as in experience. Exposure therapy and other psychotherapy, and medication, all have a role in treating the flashbacks, anger outbursts, physical distress and other signs of the disorder.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is an anxiety disorder that may develop after exposure to a terrifying event or ordeal in which severe physical harm occurred or was threatened. Traumatic events that may trigger PTSD include violent personal assaults, natural or unnatural disasters, accidents, or military combat.
